On Saturday, March 26, the Makepeace Brothers and special guest Jason Mraz joined the Feeding the Soul Foundation in celebrating National Nutrition Awareness Month. At the event over $2,500 was raised for SuperFood Drive and 310 pounds of food were collected – providing over 7,000 meals to San Diegans in need. 

The event opened with married singer-songwriters, Avasa and Matty Love. They shared soulful, world-pop songs filled with hip hop beats, reggae undertones, smooth jazz horns, and lush strings. The couple sang songs of love, music and perseverance. When the Makepeace Brothers’ began their set they had the crowd pushing away their chairs and on their feet dancing and singing along to their timeless “porch-front” tunes. The Makepeace Brothers also took time to shared stories about their lyrics, each other and the importance of giving back to our communities.

Along with the concert, Grammy Award winner Jason Mraz, created a beautiful collage that was auctioned at the event of the event raising $800 on its own. To top off an amazing night of music and charity, the Makepeace Brothers’ ended the night with Thank You. It is one of the songs featured on Feeding the Soul Vol. 1:  Family Dinner, the benefit CD compiled by Feeding the Soul Foundation, featuring donated songs by 13 artists. The SuperFood Drive is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of food drives. They strive to integrate themselves within communities to teach them the importance of providing nutritious food to those who would not otherwise have access to them.

April Game and the San Diego Fine Art Society join efforts with  Citizen Effect

 April Game, the Executive Director of San Diego Fine Art Society, is host a fundraising party for the Doctors Without Borders efforts in Japan. All the artwork will be “for sale” for a $300 to $500 donation to the fund.

“I am shocked by what is happening in Japan and want to do what I can to help,” said Game. “My partner and I were researching ways to give and to help when we read a statement by Lady Gaga suggesting that the best way to give would be through the Citizen Effect, which is working with several relief organizations in Japan and coordinating fundraising endeavors like ours with donors making matching gifts – so that our impact is doubled.”

Currently, the art collected for this wonderful evening has all been purchased from regional contemporary artists in mid-career for between $1,800 and $6,000. Each will be sold for a $300-$500!

Game added:  “Many of us have artwork that we no longer need to hold on to. What do you have that would add some excitement to the event? Let it go – and find something else that serves you better – at a song! You will feel great knowing that your contribution can help Doctors Without Borders do their work. Let’s make some money for Doctors Without Borders and have some fun.”
