It’s Maytober – San Diego goes PINK in May!
With Mother’s Day approaching our thoughts turn to issues that impact our mothers. May is turning out to be just as pink as October with several Susan G. Komen for the Cure, San Diego events designed to raise awareness and funds to support the under and uninsured women in San Diego.
April 28: Westfield and Susan G. Komen for the Cure® San Diego “Paint the Town Pink” in May: Westfield and Susan G. Komen for the Cure, San Diego are partnering to “Paint the Town Pink” for the cures of breast cancer during the month of May. All seven Westfield San Diego shopping centers will participate in special activities to raise awareness and funds.
May 2-8: San Diego Padres Give Back: The San Diego Padres have named Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, San Diego as one of their select charities for the 2011 season. Monday, May 2 through Sunday, May 8, $5 from each ticket sold through a special promotional code will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, San Diego. This unique contribution allows Padres fans the opportunity to enjoy a fun-filled day at the park while giving back to one of their favorite charities.
May 7: San Diego Enforcers Fifth Annual Hero Bowl: For the second year in a row, The San Diego Enforcers Public Safety Football Team has chosen Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, San Diego as its charity of choice. On Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Escondido High School, the Enforcers will host the Dallas Defenders in their fifth annual “Hero Bowl.” The Hero Bowl is the organization’s most popular game and highlights this year’s charity beneficiary by building awareness and raising funds while giving breast cancer survivors the pink carpet treatment.
May 13: Golf for the Cause: One in five women in San Diego County are not receiving regular, recommended breast screenings due to lack of access and funding. To support these women, Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, San Diego is the selected beneficiary of the second annual GOLF FOR THE CAUSE tournament on Friday, May 13, 2011. The event, taking place at the well-manicured Eastlake Golf Course in Chula Vista, will raise funds for uninsured and underinsured San Diegans diagnosed with the disease.

Takeda San Diego gives to San Diego Center for Children
Takeda San Diego donated a major gift to the San Diego Center for Children. The donation will allow the center to start a new behavioral health diagnostic program that will lead to more individualized diagnoses and treatments. The San Diego Center for Children cares for children throughout San Diego County providing an array of mental health and academic programs for children who’ve experienced trauma, abuse or have emotional or mental health challenges. Having this state-of-the-art program will promote a faster return to healthy childhoods for the Center’s residents.
“Given the complexity of the children we help, we believe that more refined and individualized diagnosis and treatment plans are critical to help ensure each child’s success,” said Cheryl Rode, Ph.D., Director of Clinical Operations at the Center.
Before the gift, there had been no funding available for the Center to implement the comprehensive behavioral health diagnostic program that was needed to provide each child with the best care possible. Takeda San Diego has worked with the Center, supporting charity events and yearly holiday parties, since 2002. Takeda employees have built a relationship with the organization and are happy to support the center and assist in giving these children the best chance for a joyful, successful life.
One core aspect of Takeda’s philosophy is helping communities and this gift will help San Diego’s children and families. “It’s nice to bring that support to San Diego” said Dr. Keith Wilson, Ph. D., Taked San Diego President when speaking about the importance of the new assessment.
