Feeding the Soul Presents Dawn Mitschele & Friends

San Diego’s W Lobby Lounge will be transformed Saturday, September 24, into an evening of giving, learning and music vibrations. Feeding the Soul Foundation presents the second installment of “Olive Us Deserve to Learn” with performances from Dawn Mitschele, The Paul Cannon Band, and Teagan Taylor Trio. The benefit concert will take place from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Tickets are $15 in advance and $25 at the door. Proceeds will benefit the Indigenous Education Foundation of Tanzania.

About Olive Us Deserve To Learn

Olive PR Solutions, Inc. and Feeding the Soul Foundation are partnering to present a yearlong campaign called “Olive Us Deserve To Learn.” These community based events will share one common theme – creative generosity. All the proceeds will benefit The Indigenous Education Foundation of Tanzania (IEFT), a community-collaborative organization, providing quality, affordable education to under-served children in rural Tanzania, East Africa.

The events will range from benefit concerts, to professional speaking engagements, dinners, art exhibitions, and more. Every event will focus on educating the community about the needs of IEFT and how each individual has the power to make a difference.

About Indigenous Education Foundation of Tanzania (IEFT)

IEFT is a community-collaborative organization, providing quality, affordable education to under-served children in rural Tanzania, East Africa. Through the organization’s collaborative model involving both village government and tribal leadership, IEFT staff members work alongside community members in the implementation of the organization’s projects. Straying from the common “aid giving” model, IEFT believes in empowering community members by providing youth with the knowledge and skills to create positive change within their own communities. Education is the key in breaking the cycle of extreme poverty.

Through the development of Orkeeswa Secondary School in the Arusha Region of northern Tanzania, IEFT provides secondary education to children who have no hope of continuing their education past primary school.

About Feeding the Soul Foundation:

The Feeding the Soul Foundation promotes concerts for causes, bringing community together in creative generosity. The foundation promotes local artists, charities and businesses that make a positive difference by creating events that draw attention and opportunity to their talents and intents. Proceeds of each show benefit a different local, national or global charity. Since its formation in March, 2010, the Feeding The Soul Foundation has donated more than $30,000 to organizations that feed the hungry, empower young women through music, promote environmental responsibility, and free slaves around the world.

In “Poetry,” Dodge mixes fleeting images with found words to create new meaning in everyday urban scenes. The solo exhibition of new never-before-displayed works melds words and images into daring new compositions.

Dodge has announced she will contribute 100% of proceeds of three paintings to Freedom Station, a San Diego-based organization committed to supporting recovering service members.

“As a journalist, my life was words and I used them to describe everything I saw,” Dodge said. “When I became an artist I began telling stories of life in images. With this show, I will attempt to bring my history and my future together.”

Dodge created her images by layering scenes painted in acrylic over letters and repeating these layers many times until they became one. The phrases spill out in English, Spanish and French. Sometimes the words are from graffiti, other times poetry, and still other times, from the very newspaper stories she used to write.
